Reflecting back, we had quite the eventful first week of school! We spent the week getting to know each other, the classroom, and the school. Most of the time we were learning the guidelines to make us successful inside and out of the classroom. The expectations are clear for each workshop, activity, and transition. With such a great group of new 2nd Graders, we are looking forward to the best year yet!
The highlight of the week could certainly be our Science labs. We began the first unit of the year- "Observing, Describing, & Recording". Through the use of the #1 scientist tool we have- our bodies- we observed using our vision, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. We also had the opportunity to determine how a hand lens could be a useful scientist tool we will use this year. It helped us see the objects in more detail because it made the objects appear bigger and closer. Check out some of the pictures of our observing...

Farm-tastic Fun in Second Grade!
Howdy Farmers!

If today is any indicator for how this school year will be- it is going to be a farm-tastic year! What a WOW we had this morning as we interacted with real-live farm animals and chatted with real local farmers. Highlights included the minature pony which we were able to brush, as well as a pot-belly pig, chickens & baby chicks, rabbits, ducks (which had produced an egg in the enclosure this morning!), goats, sheep & brand new baby lambs, all of which we were able to see and pet. We learned about, played with, and ate delicious watermelon which were all grown locally. Did you know that there are over a thousand farms in this region? Who would have known?! On the back big playground- which we are super pumped about playing on this year!- we each planted our very own seed which we will grow here at school. Under the pavilion we met a real beekeeper. He showed and told us about his bees and even let us taste the honey produced from his farm- how cool! Our last stop was at the tractors where we saw and learned about the different generations of farm tools. We sure are blessed at this school to have such amazing opportunities!
P.S.- Please enjoy this message from the class...
The remainder of the day was spent getting to know each other and the expectations for Second Grade. We are the BIG kids now! Our room is upstairs, we play on the BIG playground, and all of the little Kindergarten & First Graders will look up to us this year. With great power comes great responsibilites... right?
We are looking forward to an unforgettable year!
